🌐 DarkWorld IRC Network

The DarkWorld IRC Network (DWIRC) is the global IRC network and community home of the broader DarkWorld Network Community. Launched in 2021, DWIRC provides a global real-time communication platform where users can connect for discussion, collaboration, gaming, and community interaction.

DarkWorld IRC focuses on stability, privacy, security, and user experience, offering modern IRC services, multilingual support, and infrastructure designed for reliable communication. Whether you are a casual chatter, developer, or community organizer, DWIRC provides the tools and services needed to stay connected across its global IRC network.

Alongside DWIRC, the broader DarkWorld Network Community develops and operates independent projects and services that support the IRC network while not being limited to it. These projects may also serve communities and users on other IRC networks, allowing DarkWorld to grow both its native IRC network and its wider community ecosystem.

Network Overview

DarkWorld IRC Network operates multiple servers strategically located across the globe to provide low-latency connections for users. The network uses round-robin DNS for load distribution.

Global Round-Robin Connection:

IPv4 only irc4.darkworld.chat
IPv6 only irc6.darkworld.chat

🌍 Regional Round-Robin Connections:

Region Address
Europe european.darkworld.chat
North America american.darkworld.chat
Asia asian.darkworld.chat
Oceania oceania.darkworld.chat

🗺️ Server Locations by Continent:

Continent Locations IPv6 Support
Europe Frankfurt, Helsinki, Madrid ✅ Yes
North America New York, St. Louis, Miami ✅ Yes
Asia Jakarta ✅ Yes
Oceania Sydney ✅ Yes

🔌 Connection Ports:

Port Protocol Recommended Use
6697 TLS Recommended secure IRC connection
443 TLS Secure alternative for restricted networks
6667 Plain text Compatibility only; not recommended
80 Plain text Web-client or network-specific use only; not recommended for IRC credentials

History

DarkWorld IRC started as a small private network in 2021 and expanded to include public channels, IRC services, bots, and community-driven projects.

Key Milestones

  • 2021 – Launch: DWIRC goes live with its initial servers and community
  • 2022 – First Expansion: North American and European capacity expands
  • 2023 – Further Expansion: Additional international server coverage is introduced
  • 2024 – Global Reach: More regions and community projects join the network
  • 2025 onward: Continued development of network infrastructure, policies, documentation, applications, and community services

With contributions from global developers, server sponsors, staff, and community members, DarkWorld IRC Network has grown into a reliable IRC environment for casual users and organized communities.

Infrastructure

The network infrastructure includes:

  • Servers distributed across multiple regions
  • IPv4 and IPv6 connectivity
  • TLS encryption for secure client connections
  • Automated server monitoring for uptime and performance
  • Network linking for synchronized channels and users
  • IRC Services for account and channel management

Community

DWIRC is more than a collection of servers; it is a community:

  • 💬 Public and project channels
  • 🌐 International participation
  • 🤝 Multilingual staff and helpers
  • 🎮 Access to games, bots, and interactive projects provided by the wider DarkWorld community
  • 🛠️ Support for approved scripts, bots, and IRC integrations

Channel Guidelines

To keep DarkWorld enjoyable for everyone, follow these basic rules:

  • 🔊 Understand the channel – Read the topic and observe the channel before participating
  • 🤐 No spam or flooding – Do not repeat messages, flood, or use disruptive formatting
  • 🚫 No harassment – Treat users respectfully regardless of background
  • 🔗 No malicious content – Do not distribute malware, phishing links, or other harmful material
  • 📣 No unsolicited advertising or recruitment – Follow DarkWorld advertising and relay policies
  • 🤖 Use designated bot channels – Keep testing and heavy automation in approved channels such as #DWBots

Channel operators may maintain additional local rules. Always check the channel topic and applicable network policies.

Getting Started

To join DarkWorld IRC:

  1. Open a supported IRC client such as HexChat, WeeChat, Irssi, mIRC, Textual, KVIrc, or a supported mobile client.
  2. Add irc.darkworld.chat as the server.
  3. Select port 6697 with TLS and certificate verification enabled.
  4. Connect using your preferred nickname.
  5. Register an account by following /msg NickServ HELP REGISTER.
  6. Configure SASL using your registered account name for automatic authentication.
  7. Join channels such as #DarkWorld, #Help, #DWBots, or #DWGames.

If a TLS certificate warning appears, do not disable verification or ignore the warning. Confirm the server address, port, device date and time, and exact error, then contact authorized support if the problem continues.

Technical Requirements

To connect to DarkWorld IRC, your client should support:

  • IRC protocol – A maintained standard IRC client
  • TLS 1.2 or later – TLS 1.3 is preferred where supported
  • Certificate verification – Do not accept invalid or mismatched certificates
  • SASL – SASL PLAIN over verified TLS or another mechanism supported by DarkWorld

Keep your IRC client and operating system updated. Exact minimum client versions change over time, so use a maintained release rather than relying on an outdated fixed version list.

IRC Staff Training

DarkWorld IRC operates a structured training program for prospective support staff, moderators, Services administrators, and IRC operators.

The program covers:

  • DarkWorld IRC structure and authority boundaries
  • IRC fundamentals and secure connections
  • Network rules and policies
  • User and channel modes
  • IRC Services
  • User support and communication
  • Moderation and incident handling
  • IRC operator fundamentals
  • Staff ethics, privacy, and security
  • Written, knowledge, and supervised practical assessments

Training access does not automatically grant staff authority or privileged access. Trainees receive only the permissions necessary for approved and supervised activities. Completing training does not guarantee appointment to a staff role.
